BIG MONA MOMMA

3D-printed sculpture and avatar performance

A 3D-printed avatar sculpture and performance in which 17 parts form the main piece, which is assembled through a performative action. The work was exhibited for the first time in the context of the solo show Amazona ou a Dança das Resistências, at the MACRS -Museum of Contemporary Art in RS/BR(2024-2025). The sculpture is a derivation of the character Big Mom, from the 3D video AzoneCyborg (2022). This caracthers, a postman figure, in this feminist science fiction storyboard, the character big mom, has many breasts spread across her body, a vulva on her belly, a penis split in half and a scanner of my real head. A hybrid representation of a genderless body or a body with many gender nuances in a post-patriarchal society. At the beginning of the performance, I read extracts from Donna Haraway's "Staying with the Problem”, with all peaces at the floor, and them starts to assemble the avatar/sculpture.

"In Greek mythology, Amazons were women warriors who, according to some legends, cut off their own breasts in order to better handle bows and arrows. A violent process aimed at ensuring their own safety, since the presence and location of the breasts would limit their movements, making it difficult for them to be dexterous and precise when using these objects. In other words, self-mutilation as a defence strategy (…)With the pieces joined together, it becomes clear how many breasts surround this body, occupying a large part of the sculpture's surface. Breasts that, instead of being mutilated in search of a safe way of being in the world, are abundant. Breasts that, re-signified, come to symbolise resistance." (Bruna Fetter - curator of the current solo show at MACRS/Brazil)
